Hay Goals

Hay Goals

One thing that we have learned how to do here at Robin's Nest is to make do with what we have!

With the way our lifestyle is currently we cannot afford the much needed barn that I have dreamed about for 3 years now!

So how do we store our hay so that its not right in the way and making a mess in the garage?

Our Horse trailer, that's how!

We got our little two horse, horse trailer from my step-father several months ago and have been using it to haul chickens and sheep but when it wasn't in use, it was parked and wasnt touched untill the next time I needed to pick up or drop off an animal like any other trailer.

For months now I have been trying my best to figure out a place, other that my husbands garage, to put the hay we pick up.
We have only been able to get a couple of bales at a time because we didnt have the room but now....NOW... I have a plan!

Here is what we did...

I had a huge heavy duty tarp that I wasn't using, its like a 16x14, So I got my husband to help me drag it up and over the trailer and ziptie, which are amazing BTW, it to the rims of the trailer and around the tongue to keep the wind from getting under it and flipping it up... and BINGO!

Automatic hay storage!

Today we have had a huge amount of rain and I figured that it would be a good time to check and make sure that we didn't have any leaks so... I pull on my black muck boots, my husbands rain coat and walked my happy butt down there in the pouring rain!

Huston we have a problem!

All but 2 bales were good and dry.
but...

The problem is a hole in the tarp towards the top which is leaking water down the side and into the side panels of the trailer and dripping down onto the hay itself.
Its not bad mind you but enough.

I pulled them toward the middle away from the drip until I can figure out what to do to get it fixed.

So the moral of this little story is, always look around you and use your imagination because most of the time you will have what you need on hand to make do until something better comes along!

Until next time!

God bless!
